As mentioned in a previous post, Tomysshadow has been working on resurrecting these old 3D Groove games over at the Lost Media Wiki, They found a load of these lost games and has just updated the hoard with a few more. A couple of these have the basic game, but lack all of the levels.
Which brings us to Animenace. As the name suggests, these games use the look and elements of Japanese animation. Not my favourite genre, but the games are good enough. There are two releases bearing this name: Animenace: Warfighter and Animenace: Operation Phantom.
The first is a futuristic FPS, where you wander through three levels and take out a boss at the end of each one.
The second one is a mech game, where you pilot a giant robot through six levels, blasting away at various enemies. This one has more of a plot than the other game, and two of the game’s developers have put up renders and concept art on the net in the past. Only three of the six levels are available at this moment in time.
There is a third game, although you probably wouldn’t know to look at it. The two characters from Warfighter also appear in 002 Turbo, a racing/combat game also recently uncovered by Tomysshadow.
There are two builds of this game and you can play as either character in each one. Not only do they get names this time, but also individual vehicles.
There may be even more to the Animenace series of games. Let’s hope the rest of the Operation Phantom levels turn up too, as it is a nice mech shooter.
