When Mortal Kombat Deception (MKD) came out, Gameshark codes became available very quickly to play “unplayable” characters such as Monster or Onaga. The PSP port of the game, with its expanded list of warriors, also followed its predecessor when hackers found codes to do exactly the same thing on the portable version. This website is about this “ultimate” edition of Mortal Kombat Unchained, with its larger collection of both playable warriors and selectable arenas.
Of course, the “Ultimate” moniker is a play on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, the expanded version of the original Mortal Kombat 3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy added even more characters and arenas to this. Not to be outdone, Mortal Kombat fans have built on this even further, with Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy, a hack of the original UMK3 rom for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Their aim is to include all characters from the first three MK games. While Ultimate Mortal Kombat Unchained (UMKU) does not come anywhere near including all the characters from previous Mortal Kombat games, it is pretty close. However, all characters now have profiles and endings, based on either Kombat Kards or the events in Mortal Kombat Armageddon.
